Emotionally preparing for Movember, I came across this song from Tony Hanna. No, just kidding, I came across the name of Zak Nassif, the composer behind Tallou Hbabna and wandered off from there.

ghazal spring soundtrack

My locked on repeat spring soundtrack is the sweet ghazal Hangama Hai Kyon Barpa by Ghulam Ali. After a little googling, I found out that the words come down to:

Why all this commotion?
All I did was drink a little.
I didn’t rob anyone,
I didn’t steal anything.

I don’t want the drink,
that makes my heart forget(her)
what I want from this drink
is to enjoy the pain in my heart.

A, spot on the sun, it is the marvels of nature
see these idols call me infidel
it must be Allah’s will.

las casitas de barrio alto

Most interesting to see Malvina Reynold’s “Little Boxes” covered by Victor Jara. Both Malvina and Victor have left us more than 30 years ago, but apparently they still have enough to tell us. Is it time yet to pick up tye dying or macramee?

Taraf de Haidouks

DSCN8954

Fallen for the charm of the band of friendly brigands. An explosion of gypsie music washed away the support act in one tenth of a second.

abida

abida

Stumbled upon the stunning voice of Abida Parveen and immensely enjoyed her qawwali interpretations of Sufi poetry. Looking forward to new European tour dates. Never had the opportunity to enjoy a live performance of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, but did have the chance to see (and hear) the Sabri Brothers in Groningen a long, long time ago. A concert that reverberates to the present day.

Always with Me
A voice is calling
deep inside my heart
May I always dream,
emotional dreams

Tears of sadness,
uncountable
I know I will find you
on the other side of them

Everytime we fall
we look up to blue skies
Waking up to it’s hue
as for the first time

The road is long and lonely
the end is out of sight
With these two arms
I can embrace the light

As I bid farewell my heart stops,
in tenderness I feel
My silent empty body
listening to what is real

The wonder of living,
the wonder of dying
Wind, town, flowers,
we dance in unity

A voice is calling
deep inside my heart
dream your dreams,
bever let them part

Why speak of sadness
or of life’s painfull woes
Instead let these lips
sing a song for you

Whispering voices,
we will never forget,
always there to guide you
in each memory

A miror broken,
it´s pieces scattered
Glimpses of new life,
reflected all around

Window of beginning, stillness,
new light of dawn
Let my silent, empty body
be filled and reborn

No need to search outside,
nor sail across the sea
Cause shining here inside me,
it is inside of me

I’ve found a brightness,
it will always be with me
